Roberta "Nan" Strein

Roberta "Nan" Strein, 84, of Evansdale, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Falls, died at her home on Friday, March 10, 2017. She was born March 24, 1932 in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Ronald Earl and Ermal (Hudson) Phillips. Nan married Marvin Nelson in January of 1950 in Lenox, Iowa. They later divorced. She married Clifford W. Strein on October 14, 1988 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2005. Nan was a homemaker, a salesperson for KWAY Radio in Waverly, Iowa, and the secretary at the St. Joseph Catholic Church rectory in Waterloo. She was a Navy wife and mom, with her husband and four of her children all veterans of the U.S. Navy.

Nan is survived by two daughters, Georgia Toma of Barnesville, Minnesota and Lynne (David) Calton of Waterloo; three sons, Mark (Patty) Nelson of Marion, Iowa, Phillip (Cheryl) Nelson of Manson, Iowa and Stacey (Leanna) Nelson of Evansdale; 26 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; a brother, Joe Phillips, of Corning, Iowa, and a sister, Jean Devereaux, of Bloomfield, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, an infant child, and a brother, Robert Phillips.

Visitation will be 5—7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with private inurnment in Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford, Iowa, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
