Robert Dean Youngblut, 83, of Waterloo, died Monday, April 13, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He was born May 20, 1925 in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Harold J. and Miriam (Smith) Youngblut. Robert married Elizabeth Orr in 1947 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death in 1972. Robert attended St. John Catholic School and East Waterloo High School. He served in the US Army in the European Theatre of Operations during WW II, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. Robert was in the used car business in Waterloo for many years.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Tallyan Rousselow of Des Moines and Robert Rousselow of Plymouth, Minnesota, and two brothers, Harold (Jean) Youngblut and Norris (Lolly) Youngblut, both of Waterloo. Robert was preceded in death by his wife and parents; a son, Jeffrey Youngblut and a daughter, Roberta Rousselow; two brothers, Gordon and Leo Youngblut; two sisters, Jean Bradford and Norma Hey, and his close friend, Mary Ellen Frey.

Robert's wishes were to be buried without ceremony. Inurnment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Allen Memorial Hospital.
