ROBERT A. OLSON was born August 3, 1918 in Rochester, Minnesota, the son of Andrew and Bessie (Foltz) Olson. He married Charlotte Glemstad on January 2, 1942 in Blanchardville, Wisconsin. Robert served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a maintenance engineer with Carnation Dairy for many years. In 1970, he and Charlotte purchased the Swiss Colony Stores in Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Marshalltown. They retired in 1987. Robert died Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at 83 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Cedar Falls; two sons, Robert of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Verne of Overland Park, Kansas; two daughters, Lynn Olson of Wellsburg, Iowa and Ann Bercher of Minneapolis, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Leslie, Karen, Christopher, Benjamin, Andrew, Michaela and Rebecca, and three sisters, Bonita Sageng of Mankato, Minnesota, Betty Ann Thurson of Memphis, Tennessee and Mary Jean Brown of Shell Rock, Iowa.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Michael Olson.
Memorial service was 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel. Inurnment was at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home and Christian Crusaders.
