Robert “Bob” LeRoy Hedlund, 94, of Cedar Falls, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad.
Bob was born in Oskaloosa on April 8, 1931, the son of LeRoy and Wilma (Scribner) Hedlund. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1949, and began working for the Marshalltown Times Republican. Bob served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1951-1953. Prior to his deployment, he married Frances “Fran” Black on February 22, 1952, in Fort Jackson, SC. They shared 63 years of marriage prior to Fran’s death on November 3, 2015. Following Bob’s honorable discharge from the Army, he started a long career with Prudential Financial as a salesman. He was elected to the Prudential Hall of Fame and retired in 1994 after 36 years.
Bob enjoyed golf, racing (especially dirt track racing), and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his children, Steven (Becky) Hedlund of Conrad, and Jennifer (Paul) Hughson of Burnsville, MN; five grandchildren, Nick (Amy) Hedlund, Kristin (Bill) McLeland, Brandon (Molly) Hughson, Kendall (Jordan) Hughson, and Austin (Vanessa) Hughson; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fran Hedlund; and sisters, Barbara Kasischke and Roberta Hedlund.
Visitation will be held from 10-11am, Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, followed by Bob's funeral service at 11am.
