Robert Gene Hansen

Robert Gene Hansen, 96, Cedar Falls, died Sunday, February 2, 2025 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.

Robert was born December 1, 1928 in Cedar Falls to the late William Bernard and Emma Mae (Robinson) Hansen.  Following his graduation from Cedar Falls High School in 1946, Robert enlisted in the US Army and honorably served in the occupation of Japan.  Following his service, he married Betty Lou Goddard on June 12, 1954 in Waterloo.  They were blessed with three children: Michael, Rhonda and Monica.  He worked for John Deere for 31 years as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1987.

Robert enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and his Labradors.  He was a member of NRA, Ducks Unlimited and the American Legion.

Robert is survived by his son, Michael Hansen (Roxanne Fuller) of Mount Auburn; four grandchildren, Jessica, Nicholas and Ashley Wilson, all of Waterloo, and Heather Gribble, of Colorado; two great grandchildren, Isaac and Haley Wilson, both of Waterloo; sister, Dorothy Beckvall of St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, "Zip" Keitges and extended family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty Lou; and daughters, Rhonda Wilson and Monica Hansen; and sister, Marilyn Keitges.

There will be a private graveside service with military honors at a later date.  Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family.
