ROBERT M. FRANKEN was born December 6, 1924 in Schaller, Iowa the son of Herman F. and Lillie M. (Swanson) Franken. He married Mary L. Weiking June 25, 1966 in West Salem, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor Degree from Morningside College and a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota. Robert was a teacher, principal, and guidance consultant in northwest Iowa prior to his employment as a Counselor for the Division of Vocational Rehabitation with the State Department of Public Instruction. He served clients in the Waterloo District and with the University of Northern Iowa Offices until his retirement in 1988. He was a veteran of the United States Army with three years of service during WWII. Robert died Friday, June 16, 2000 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo at the age of 75 years. Survivors include his wife, Mary, and one daughter, Kate M. Castells and her husband, Paul, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; two grandsons, Christopher and Cameron; one brother, Gaylord F. Franken of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida; and two nephews, Alan Franken of Carmel, Indiana and Paul Franken of Lake Mary, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services were 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2000 at Nazareth Lutheran Church.  Private family interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the U.N.I. Foundation for the Robert M. Franken School of Music Scholarship.
