Richard Treichel, 93, Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.

Richard was born on August 8,1932, in Bentley, North Dakota, to the late Jacob and Edna (Weishaar) Treichel. As a teenager, he worked in the family business: Treichel Bros and Sons Carpentry. Richard then enlisted and honorably served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane maintenance instructor, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Richard married the love of his life, Marylou Chowning, on September 7, 1958, in Fargo, North Dakota. He was enrolled at North Dakota State College (NDSU) in the Mechanical Engineering program.  While attending college, he worked as a beat cop in downtown Fargo on the night shift.  After graduating with a bachelor's degree, he went to work for John Deere for more than 32 years where he enjoyed both problem-solving which led to multiple patents, and mentoring young mechanical engineers.

Richard's wife of 67 years, Marylou, joined him nine days later. He is survived by his children, Cathy Treichel of Cedar Falls, Cory (Marie) Treichel of Lawrence, KS and Gary Treichel of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Taylor (Allison) Treichel, Ryan Treichel and Tanner Treichel; and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his siblings, VerNiece Haux, Evelyn Wierschke and Clinton Treichel.

The Remembrance Service for Richard's life will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 31 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 11:00 until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.  Funeral Honors provided by the US Air Force.  Interment at Cedar Valley Memorial Garden, Cedar Falls.
