Richard James Peterson, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.  Richard was born April 25, 1936 at Frederika, Iowa, the son of Albert & Doris (Simerson) Peterson.  He married Marcella "Marci" M. Kistner July 14, 1956, at Marengo, Iowa.  She preceded him in death August 22, 2008.  Richard served in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.  He was an assembler and repairman at John Deere & Company for 35 years, retiring in 1992.  Richard was a proud Marine and was a member of the Marine Corps League.

Survivors include three daughters, Sheri Rucker, of Cedar Falls, Pam (Tony) Burns, of Cedar Falls and Sandi (Ken) Galloway, of Chandler, Arizona; six grandchildren, Josh, Jeremy and Jamie Rucker, Christy (Tim) Butler, and Tanner and Faith Galloway; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jacob; a brother, Curt (Janet) Peterson, of Frankfurt, Indiana; and two sisters, Mary Havelock of Frankfurt, Indiana and Donna White of Independence, Iowa.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and wife; a granddaughter, Lori Burns; three brothers, Donald, John and Albert Jr. Peterson; and three sisters, Kathryn and Kate Peterson, and Marlys Mathes.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Hillside Cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, and one hour before service, at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to Waverly Pet Rescue.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
