Richard G. Folkers

Richard G. Folkers, 82, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Monday, March 14, 2016 at Elizabeth Martin Center, Western Home Communities. He was born July 20, 1933 in Shell Rock, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Lizzie (Siems) Folkers. Richard married Delores M. Gerholdt March 20,1955 at Finchford Community Bible Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. Richard graduated from Finchford Consolidated High School in 1952. Before his retirement in 1995, he worked for C. W. Shirey/Manatts construction as a crane operator. Richard loved his family and his church and enjoyed doing whatever needed to be done at the church. He also loved fishing and going to auctions.

He is survived by his wife Delores Folkers, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Doug (Kathy) Folkers, of Cedar Falls and David (Leann) Folkers, of Des Moines; two daughters, Cindy (Bob) Gabriel, of Des Moines and Connie Joy, of Waterloo; fifteen grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren; one brother in law, Johnny Van Langen, of Janesville.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one great grandchild, Brody Sanders, one son in law, Keith Joy; four brothers, Fred, Ben, Jake, and Raymond Folkers; three sisters, Gertrude Van Langen, Sena Adelmund, and Ruth Smith.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Finchford Community Bible Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church on Friday.
