RALPH O. MORTENSEN was born on August 20, 1910 in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Martin E. and Inger (Hagedorn) Mortensen. He married Alice S. Petersen on August 25, 1937 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Ralph was a 1923 graduate of Royal High School in Royal, Iowa and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI0 in 1931. He began teaching at Cherokee Indian Mission School in Oaks, Oklahoma. Ralph was a superintendent of schools at Quimby, Rolfe, and Alleman, Iowa. He died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 93 years of age.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Alice, of Cedar Falls; one son, Ivan (Larisa Ibragimova) Mortensen of Spring Lake, Michigan and one daughter, Patricia Bailey of Des Moines, Iowa; and seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Mortensen; three brothers, Louis, Edward and Leo Mortensen and two sister, Marie Lee and Ethel Mortensen.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Nazareth Lutheran Church Chapel, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church.
