Peter Christian Skar, 50, of Roselle, Illinois and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died July 7, 2009.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on February 5, 1959, Peter was preceded in death by his father Robert C. Skar and his mother Margaret N. (Hansen) Skar, both formerly of Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Born with developmental disabilities, Peter was home schooled by his mother. Through his mother's efforts, Peter learned to talk and read, and developed exceptional arithmetic abilities. After his mother's death, Peter went to live at Little City Foundation in Palatine, Illinois at age 16. Peter participated in a sheltered workshop weekdays for many years. Peter enjoyed many things. He especially enjoyed numbers, listening to music, going for walks and going to amusement parks. In recent years Peter lived in a Little City administered residential home in Roselle, Illinois. He will be greatly missed by his family, his house-mates, and the staff that provided care for him.
Peter is survived by his brother Paul R. Skar and his wife Nancy of Londonderry, New Hampshire; brother John R. Skar and his wife Alison of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, sister Patricia C. (Skar) FitzGerald and her husband Alexis of Stratford-upon-Avon, England; as well as an aunt and uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be one hour before services Tuesday at the Lutheran Home Chapel. Memorials may be directed to Little City Foundation, 1760 West Algonquin Road, Palatine, IL 60067.
