Penelope "Penny" Ann Lowman, 67, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was born September 22, 1941 in Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of Irvin and Helen (Place) Lowman. Penny graduated from Milford High School in 1959 and from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1963. She received her Masters degree from the University of Arkansas in 1973. Penny taught school at Titonka and Clear Lake Iowa. She retired in 1999 from the Denver, Iowa school system, having taught there for 32 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Janesville and Iowa State Education Association.
Penny is survived by her mother, Helen Lowman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one sister, Pamela (Dean) Thomas of Pleasantville, Iowa and one brother Phil (Dianne) Lowman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three nieces, Jill Lowman, Jennifer Wolff and Amanda Peterson; one nephew, Michael Thomas; two great nieces, Kaylee Thomas and Summer Wolff; five great nephews, Sammy, Ander, and Marcus Wolff, Kayne Thomas and Myles Peterson; and a special friend, Veronika Cellerova.
Penny was preceded in death by her father.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009, at First Christian Church with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Memorials be directed to Cancer Research.
