Pearl Clarice Whitesell Asmus, 93, of Waterloo, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Rosewood Estate in Waterloo. She was born November 13, 1918 in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of John Benjamin Harrison and Hazel Inez (Ledger) Whitesell. Pearl and her family moved from Canada to Iowa in 1929. She married August Asmus on October 24, 1951 at Grace Methodist Church in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2008. Pearl received her Teaching Certificate from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She was a teacher, bookkeeper, and farmed with her husband. Pearl was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she volunteered her time. Survivors include her daughter, Toni Wunder, of Cedar Falls, two grandchildren, Emilie Wunder of Cedar Falls and Matt Asmus of Houston, Texas; three great grandchildren, Camille, Celeste and August LeRoy Asmus, all of Houston; a sister, Eileen Acuff, and a brother, Keith Whitesell, both of Waterloo, and many nieces and nephews. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and seven brothers, Delbert, Donald, Johnny, Virgil, Teddy, Fay Laverne and Albert Allen Whitesell. Services will be 1:30 pm Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church.
