Paul R. Hehmeyer, 89, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Ft. Madison, died Friday, February 20, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He was born January 6, 1920 in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of Walter and Florence (Schnitzer) Hehmeyer. Paul married Jane Cattle on July 11, 1942 in Hannibal. He was a graduate of Hannibal High School and worked for the Burlington & Northern Railroad for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1980. After retirement, Paul served three terms with the Area Agency on Aging and two terms with the Older Iowans Legislative group, where he was on Senator Harkins' Task Force for Older Iowans.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Hehmeyer, of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Venah Dae Hehmeyer of Cedar Falls, Marcia DeVeirman of Rockford, Illinois, and Peggy Barr of Cedar Falls; twin sons, Dick (Heidi) Hehmeyer of Hannibal, Missouri and Don Hehmeyer of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and a brother, John (Mary) Hehmeyer, of Hannibal, Missouri.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jeanette Spilker and Ann Genovese; two brothers, Russell and Bob Hehmeyer, and his son-in-law, Michael DeVeirman.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 7, 2009 , at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before service. Memorials may be directed to the family.
