PAUL O. HANSEN was born January 20, 1906 on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, the son of Frederick Peter and Andrea (Lund) Hansen. He immigrated to the United States in 1923 at the age of 17 and soon settled in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Paul met Frances Stewart through a friend, and after a brief courtship they were married on September 10, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 13, 1994. Paul worked for the Cedar Falls Utilities for nearly 46 years, retiring as Manager of Gas Distribution and Service in 1973. He died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 94 years of age.
Paul is survived by his two sons, Roland of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Vernon of Cedar Falls; his two daughters, Connie Hansen of Cedar Falls and Kay Zimmerman of The Colony, Texas; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; six brothers, one being Johannes Hansen, and five sisters.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church or the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
