Patrick Jariel Moreland

Patrick Jariel Moreland, 53, of Cedar Falls passed away at home on Sunday, January 11, 2026. He was born May 26, 1972, in the Quad Cities and was adopted by Charlarae Moreland (Larimer). Pat graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1990, then studied Art at the University of Northern Iowa, followed by a Master's Degree in Painting and Illustration from Northern Illinois University. On June 1, 2002, he married Yayoi Teramoto, though they later divorced. Pat worked a variety of jobs through the years including positions at North Star, Adults, Inc, NewAldaya Lifescapes and the University of Northern Iowa. He also shared his talent and passion for art in designing sets for many area dramatic productions, working at area youth art camps, and teaching and displaying art at Cedar Falls' Art Fest and the Waterloo Center for the Arts. Pat also had a private studio at his home where he offered tours.

Pat was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Aleta Larimer; his mom, Charla Moreland; and an uncle, Lynn Paul Larimer. He is survived by his brothers: Mike, Tom and David Moreland; beloved nieces and nephews: Alayna, Westin, Merett, Kaylee Bultsma, Corbin and Cale; his birth mother, Lucy; his aunt, Carol Larimer; close friends, Craig Hintzmann and Daniel Orr; and his former wife, Yayoi Teramoto.

Pat's family and friends will honor him with a Celebration of Life Visitation from 4-6:00 pm and a very informal time to share stories of Pat from 6-7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, all at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. No gifts or honorariums are necessary, however, if you feel that you'd like to do something in Pat's memory, please send any monetary gifts directly to the Waterloo Center for the Arts or 225 Commercial Street, Waterloo, IA  50701-1313. Flowers are beautiful but don't last so plants would be a lovely way to remember Pat, too.
