Listen to Obituary

Owen Lavern Wood, 90, of Cedar Falls, peacefully fell asleep in death on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Pinnacle Specialty Care. He was born March 12, 1933 in New Hampton, and grew up in Bassett, Iowa. Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Charles and Frieda (Idler) Wood, his brother Russel Wood, his sisters Anna May Nauman, Doris Edna Anderson, and has two surviving siblings, Leland R Wood and Marie (Bud) Hennick, and many nieces and nephews.

Owen married his sweetheart Betty Ann Sinders October 27, 1956. They had two children, Jeffery (Sarah) Wood of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Lynnette (Joel) Miller of Prattsville, Arkansas. They also dearly loved their four grandchildren, Matt (Stephany) Wood, Andriana (Amado) Sierra, Jonathan Wood, and Luke Wood, and 2 great grandchildren, Hannah and Nolan Wood.

Dad loved being outdoors and enjoyed seeing all of Jehovah God's creations at home and wherever our family traveled. He always had a project going on. He could fix or build just about anything he set his mind to do, and he enjoyed fixing broken things and making them useful again. Owen was baptized to become a Witness of Jehovah God on October 4, 1958. Dad and Mom's main joy and priority was their activity in the Bible teaching work that all of Jehovah's Witnesses do. Their daily Bible reading has been a wonderful comfort and encouragement for both of them as they faced the trials of aging. One of their favorite verses is Revelation 21:4 "And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more. The former things have passed away." All of his family can find great comfort in the reality of those promises.
