Orrin Gilbert

Orrin "Gil" Gilbert, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at his home. Gil was born May 5, 1926 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Cleo (Brown) Schroedermeier. He married Sharon Eriksen on October 15, 1955 in Cedar Falls. Gil served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was employed with the City of Cedar Falls, Dahl Funeral Home, J. S. Latta and retired as a groundskeeper at the University of Northern Iowa. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Gilbert, of Cedar Falls; his son, Jerome Kent (Christina) Gilbert, of Le Grand, Iowa; two grandchildren, Amanda Gilbert-Heyl and Sarah Gilbert; two great grandchildren, Lilly George and William George VII; a brother, Ralph Schroedermeier, Jr. of Waverly, Iowa, and a sister, Beverly White, of Plainfield, Iowa. Gil was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Stanley Schroedermeier. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls.
