Opal L Mauer

Opal L. Mauer, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at  Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.  She was born November 10, 1924 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Eva (Rutherford) Bothwell.  Opal married Frank Dinatalli on December 15, 1943 in Council Bluffs, and they later divorced.  She married Othmar M. "Ole" Mauer on  July 8, 1978 in Cedar Falls.  He preceded her in death on October 1, 2008.  Opal was a bartender for thirty years at the Blue Room Lounge in Cedar Falls and was a hostess for several years at the Cedar Falls First St. McDonald's Restaurant.

Survivors include a son, Frank Dinatalli, of Waterloo, a daughter, Eva (Donald) Talaska of Cedar Falls, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a daughter, Joan Gomez, three brothers, Robert, Donald and Earl Bothwell, and four sisters, Juanita Merring, Virginia Frieze, Lorraine Petersen, and Doris Hyde.

Services will be 1:30 pm Friday, March 19, 2010, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls.  Visitation will be 4—7:00 pm Thursday, and one hour before service, at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .
