Norman L. McCumsey, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. He was born July 27, 1927 in Eugene, Oregon, the son of Harvey Leroy and Ruth Winifred (Lafayette) McCumsey. Norman served in the United States Navy during WWII. He married Marlene Shea December 28, 1992 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Norman received his Doctorate in Education. He served as teacher/elementary principal in Eugene, Oregon, and principal and superintendent of school for the Department of Defense Schools in Europe. He was Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Post Secondary Education at the University of Northern Iowa from 1967 until retiring in December 1993. Norm and Marlene spent many years traveling the states and Canada in their 5th wheel and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Marlene Shea, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Scott (Cori) McCumsey, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Lane (Erin) McCumsey, of Williston, North Dakota; two daughters, Ellen McCumsey of Junction City, Oregon and Jane Kaichen of Gunnison, Colorado; a stepson, Scott (Danielle) Shea, of Cedar Falls, and 18 grandchildren. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Winifred; and two brothers, Bob and Lou. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with Military Honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.
