NELLIE R. GERSEMA,
86, of Cedar Falls died Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Nellie was born April 18, 1919 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Charles E. & Hazel (Bowman) McCready. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1938. Nellie married Delos M. Gersema July 18, 1947 in Waterloo. He died February 8, 2004. For many years, Nellie was a full time homemaker, but from 1977 until retiring in 1994, she and Delos owned and operated the Royal Rest Hotel in Chariton, Iowa.
Survivors include two sons, David (Kathy) of Santa Maria, California, William of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Susan (Jim) Duncan of Round Rock, Texas and Vicki (Kevin) Kamienski of Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis DeVore of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Charles (Joan) McCready of Denver, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; three brothers, Forrest, Eddy and Delbert McCready; and two sisters, Delores Bartz and Verda Mae Zajacka.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Western Home Communities.
