Nancy Lee Dunahugh, 81, formerly of Florida, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at NewAldaya Lifescapes of Cedar Falls. She was born April 21, 1941, in Anamosa, Iowa, daughter of Margaret and Oliver (Luke) Brunscheen. Nancy was raised on the family's farm in Wyoming, Iowa. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa before marrying Gary Dunahugh on July 17, 1965. After their marriage, Nancy and Gary, eventually, built their lives for many years in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. They spent their free time traveling, as they could, with lots of time in South Florida. During the 1980's they changed course and moved to Lauderhill, Florida where they settled.
Nancy enjoyed her work in the computer technology industry having been employed with Digital Electronic Corporation and later Hewlitt Packard. She truly loved being on the cutting edge of new and improving technology during the personal computer boom. Nancy culminated her career working as office manager for Sea Worthy Corporation in Pompano Beach until her retirement.
Nancy enjoyed traveling. She took her mother on a trip to the Bahama's after her father's passing and toured Italy with friends. Nancy and Gary traveled to Mexico and other luxurious destinations together. She was a social butterfly having many friends in her group that would meet for cards, dinners, movies and shows. Nancy was well known in her close-knit neighborhood because she walked daily and would stop and talk to neighbors who were also outside. She enjoyed meeting everyone and created special bonds with many of her neighbors.
When Nancy could no longer live independently, she returned to Iowa to be close to her sister and extended family in Cedar Falls. We had many joyous moments celebrating holidays and family get togethers. She was able to spend time with great-nieces and nephews and great-great niece and nephews. Nancy and niece, Kara, had regular lunch, movie and nail/spa dates, which brought Nancy pride in showing off her new nail designs to friends at New Aldaya.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brothers, Merlin Brunscheen and Merville Brunscheen.
Left to cherish memories of Nancy are her sisters, Alma (Dennis) Bigelow and Karen (Aaron) Nelson; niece, Kara Bigelow-Baker (Scott Baker); nephew, Michael (Kelly) Brunscheen; great nieces and nephews, Kaelyn Christensen, Austyn Currier, Fallyn Grubic, Camryn (Baylie) Grubic and Brenyn Grubic. Nancy was so happy to know her great-great niece, Ruthie and nephews, Tristyn, Aaryn, Wolf, Theodore, Knox, Jacob and Eli. No doubt, her beloved schnauzer Pepi is sitting on her lap in Heaven.
Nancy's family will host a Celebration of life on her birthday, April 21, 2023. Details to come at a later date.
