Muriel I. Stephens, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Western Home Communities, Elizabeth Martin Health Center. Muriel was born June 4, 1920, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the daughter of Harry & Anna (Nelson) Jorgensen. She married James W. Stephens August 31, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death February 2, 1991. Muriel was a graduate of New Hartford High School and worked at Hughes Dry Goods Store on College Hill in Cedar Falls for many years.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Reuter of Waterloo and Helen McCarty of Burbank, California, and many nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Chuck) Immerzeel of Janesville, Pat (Wayne) Reuter Riddle of Waterloo, Kathy (Dennis) Diltz of Burbank, Lennie (Angie) McCarty of Burbank, Jim Jorgensen of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Gary (Mary) Jorgensen of New Hartford and Janet (Ted) Hauser of Des Moines.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society or Cedar Valley Hospice.
