Moses Joe Ross, 78, of Waterloo, passed away at his home in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. He was born September 20, 1942, in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa, son of Ready (Tolor) and Joe Ross. Moses attended college where he became an electrician and worked as a Line Foreman in Liberia. In 1998, he immigrated to America with some of his children settling first in Chicago and, eventually, the Waterloo area. Moses worked a variety of custodial positions in schools and churches. In 2012, he proudly became a Citizen of the United States of America. Moses was a man of deep and abiding faith who gave all praise and thanks to God. He was a leader in all of the churches he attended through the years in worship, stewardship and Bible study earning the nickname "GodPa" (Godfather).
Moses was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph; and many other beloved family members. He is survived by sons: Wilmot Williams of Waterloo, Samuel Joe Ross of Minnesota, Abednego Joe Ross of Cedar Falls, and Trokon Ross of Minnesota, "Baby" Joe, "Junior" Joe and Patrick all living in Africa; daughters, Neetu Joe in Africa and Taye Joe in Monrovia, Liberia. In addition, Moses has 20 grandchildren to carry on his name and legacy; and siblings, Brother Dee Joe and Martha Joe of Monrovia, Liberia.
Moses' memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 11, 2021, in the Larsen Chapel at Nazareth Lutheran Church of Cedar Falls with an hour of visitation one hour prior to the service. His family will return his cremated remains to Liberia for burial at a later date. Memorials may be directed to his family.
