Michael "Butch" Schlamp, 78, of Cedar Falls, IA, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at MercyOne Hospital in Cedar Falls.
Butch was born in Cedar Falls on August 15, 1946, to the late Elmer and Sylvia (Christiansen) Schlamp. He attended New Hartford Consolidated School prior to his enlistment in the United States Army, serving from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War. Butch married Marlys Weber on August 26, 1967, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked for John Deere for over 30 years, retiring in 2003. Following retirement, Butch worked for the City of New Hartford.
Butch was a proud member of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and served on the honor guard for many years. He enjoyed flying his Power Parachute, driving his side-by-side, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and dog, Missy.
Butch is survived by his wife, Marlys Schlamp; two sons, Jon (Laura) Schlamp and Travis Schlamp; two grandchildren, Sam Schlamp and Grace (Wyatt) Kucera; great-grandson, Dawson Schlamp; two sisters, Mary (Lee Roy) Gerloff and Barbara (Mike) Harper; and beloved dog Missy. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Dick Schlamp and Pat Brinkman.
Visitation will be held at Dahl-Van Hove Schoof Funeral Home on Monday, July 14, 2025 from 4-7pm. A private inurnment with full military honors will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to his family.
