Michael James Harn, 70, of Janesville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, following a battle with cancer. He was born September 24, 1953, in Waterloo, son of Maurice "Dutch" and Margaret (Jasper) Harn. Mike graduated from Columbus High School and worked for Omega Cabinet for 37 years, retiring in 2023. He married Beth Ann (Froehner) Erikson in 1988. Mike was happiest when he was outdoors. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting but his true passion throughout life was definitely fishing. Mike and Beth had a trailer in Harper's Ferry and every weekend during warm weather they could only be found on their boat fishing the Mississippi. Nothing could deter those plans, especially after getting his Iowa 65+ lifetime fishing license! In addition to their river friends, Mike loved visiting with his Eagle's Club friends and playing pool with his son-in-law. He was a fan of Iowa Football and was known to buy a few lottery tickets. But above all else, Mike cherished time spent with Beth, their kids, grandkids and great-grandkids making memories.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas Harn; and sister, Kate Burr. He is survived by his wife of 36 years (plus 6 years of dating); children, Jeremy (Erika) Harn of Waterloo, Katie Ann Harn of Waterloo; stepdaughters, Joy (Sunny) Bullock of Ash Flat, Arkansas, Patience (Dennis) Waycaster of Maryland, and Merry Arms of Adair, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings: Barb (Mike) Varco of Waterloo, Joe (Mary Beth) Harn of Kansas, Theresa Harm of Texas, Diane McDade of Waterloo, Jim (Kelli Jo) Harn of Waterloo and Deb (Pat) O'Malley of Nebraska; brother-in-law, Ken Burr; and many beloved family and friends.
Mike's family will host a Celebration of Life from 12 – 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Cedar Falls Eagle's Club. Memorials may be directed to his family.
Mike was known by many and will be missed by quite a few more.
