Michael Paul Gibson, Sr.

Michael Paul Gibson, Sr., 37, died Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.

He was born January 24, 1987, in Cedar Falls, the son of Paul Robert Gibson and Debra Ann (Lee) Gibson, who were divorced in 1999.

After graduating from Cedar Falls High School in 2005, he worked at Hardees and Burger King, among other jobs.  Michael was then hired at Goodwill Industries of Northeast Iowa in 2019.

Michael's own words: "I enjoyed animals and nature. I volunteered at the Cedar Bend Humane Society.  I enjoyed classic rock music and attended many concerts. I was a photographer. I enjoyed the subjects of science and history and was always curious about astronomy. I always believed in equal rights and people being all inclusive. Above all, I loved my children. I dearly missed my sister Nicole, who passed away in 2004."

Michael is survived by his parents, Paul (Donna) Gibson of Lakeville, MN and Debra Lee Gibson (John Butler) of Denver, IA; three children, Michael Paul Gibson, Jr., Jared Jonathan Gibson, and Cadence Nicole Gibson of Waterloo, IA; their mother, Taren Barker of Waterloo, IA; one brother, Jonathan Gibson (Colten Schwake) of Minneapolis, MN; and his uncle, David (Barb) Gibson of Broken Bow, NE, and their children, Jessica (Brad) Baker of Brighton, CO, and Zachery (Sallinna Torres) Izer-Gibson of Grant, NE, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nicole Lee Gibson, and his grandparents, Melvin and Evalyn Lee, and Robert and Evelyn Gibson.

Friends and friends are encouraged to celebrate Michael's life from 1:00-2:30 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, in Cedar Falls.  Burial will be in Waterloo Cemetery.
