Mervyn Keith Frye, 77, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of cancer. He was born April 4, 1931, in Clarion, Iowa, the son of Harry W. & Della P. (Hilpipre) Frye. Mervyn married Marilyn Irene Peyton on April 30, 1949 in Jacksonville, North Carolina and they later divorced. He married Maria Kaffoglou on July 27, 1974 in Waterloo. Mervyn graduated from Dows High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo for over 30 years and was owner operator of the North Cedar Dairy Sweet for several years.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Raynette J. (Jim) Wright of Des Moines, Iowa, Patti Jo (Mike) Mooers of Phoenix, Arizona; three sons, Scott K. (Rosie) Frye of Cedar Falls, David W. (Deb) Frye of Cedar Falls, and Mark E. (Becky) Frye of O'Fallon, Missouri; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren; a brother, Harvey K. (Dorothy) Frye of Waterloo and a sister, Marie M. Bradfield of Denver, Iowa.

Mervyn was preceded in death by his parents and his Aunt Florence who helped raise him.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial at Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Mervyn enjoyed playing the piano, watching sports and telling stories and jokes.
