Merle "Bob" Moyer, 71, of Cedar Falls, died of natural causes on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was born February 23, 1937 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Emerson and Viola (Undenblade) Moyer. Merle married Joyce Kettwig on November 16, 1958 in Cedar Falls. He served as a military policeman in the US Army for several years, stationed primarily at West Point, New York. Merle worked at Lawn City Bakery in Cedar Falls for four years and for his family at Moyer Landscaping. He was employed at John Deere & Company in Waterloo for thirty years, retiring in 1995. Merle was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. He enjoyed spending time with his family, including fishing in Minnesota, family picnics, going to Adventureland in Des Moines and driving to Vinton every year to look at Christmas lights. Merle was an avid gardener, and he and Joyce loved to dance and spend time with friends, especially the "Morning Coffee Club".

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Moyer, of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Kathy Moyer of Cedar Falls, Kim Moyer of Knoxville, Iowa, and Kelli Moyer of Cedar Falls; a son, Kory (Patti) Moyer, of Cedar Falls; his mother, Viola Moyer, of Janesville; four grandchildren, Toby Williamson of Cedar Falls, Nicol (Rory) Geving of Cedar Falls, Luke Fitzpatrick of Pleasantville, Iowa, and Sean Fitzpatrick of Knoxville; six great grandchildren, Megan and Morgan Williamson, Alissa and Hannah Geving, and Kaydin and Beka Dryer; two brothers, Lavern (Connie) Moyer of Waterloo and Marvin Moyer of Omaha, Nebraska, and a sister, Marjorie (Kenneth) Eaton of North Huntington , Pennsylvania.

Merle was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Inurnment will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls, at a later date. Public visitation will be 5—7 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church or the family.
