MERLE HUMMEL CASPER,
was born February 9, 1907 in Hudson, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Carrie Mae (Makinster) Mastain. She married Daniel L. Hummel on March 9, 1927 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1967. Merle married James A. Casper on January 25, 1968 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death in 1979. She died Saturday, June 5, 1999 at the Western Home in Cedar Falls at 92 years of age.
Merle is survived by her two daughters, Arlene Glassner of Anchorage, Alaska and Karen Dinger of Cupertino, California; her three sons, Ivan Hummel of Reinbeck, Iowa, Jerry Hummel of Cedar Falls and Allen Hummel of Reno, Nevada; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; and her sister, Helen Otto of Cedar Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands; a son, Harold Hummel; four sisters, Ethel Williams, Edith Van Vleet, Mae Mastain and Bertha Mumm; and five brothers, Floyd, Hobert, Garreth, Gerald and Donald Mastain.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m.Tuesday, June 8, 1999 at the Western Home Chapel with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Western Home.
