MELVIN H.
SCHOENFELDER, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at his home at Mallard Point Retirement Residence. He was born July 12, 1921, at Mitchell, South Dakota, the son of Leo F. and Amanda C. (Hagedorn) Schoenfelder. Melvin was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army in the European Theatre of Operations. He married Bette F. Sand on June 28, 1946 in Tyndall, South Dakota, and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2000. Melvin was an air traffic controller for the FAA, retiring in 1974.
He is survived by two sons, Randy (Boneta) Schoenfelder of Harper, Texas, and Scott Schoenfelder of Mill Brook, Alabama; one daughter, Carmel "CJ" (Randy) Hines of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five grandchildren, Matthew and Seth Schoenfelder, Melissa Schoenfelder, and Cory and Chad Hines, and one great granddaughter, Chase Schoenfelder.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife and infant twin sons, John and Francis.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorial may be directed to the family.
