Melanie Sue Geltz

Melanie Sue Geltz, 44, of Waterloo, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at MercyOne/Covenant Medical Center. She was born February 11, 1979, in Waterloo, daughter of Michael and Sharon (Merry) Geltz. Melanie graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1997, the University of Northern Iowa in 2001 and the University of North Dakota in 2009 with Bachelor's Degrees in Anthropology and Sociology.  She worked with Disabled Workers for the Social Security Administration. Melanie was a true crime junkie and really enjoyed finding out what made people "tick".  She was an animal and nature lover and spent a lot of her free time on hiking adventures in northeast Iowa or in the Iowa City area. Melanie also appreciated flowers and plants and searched for them on her treks.  She was very kind and sensitive and cherished time with family above all else.

Melanie was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father; her uncles, Randy Merry and Craig Geltz; and a cousin, Allyson Merry.  She is survived by her mother, Sharon of Cedar Falls; brother, William of Evansdale; sister, Stephanie Geltz of Cedar Falls; and her nephew, Patrick Geltz.

Melanie's family will have a Memorial Service for her at 1:30 on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home of Cedar Falls with a half hour of Visitation prior.  A reception will follow at 3:00 pm at her brother, William's house.  Her family will have a private burial at a later date at Waterloo Memorial Park.  Memorials may be directed to one of her favorite places, the Cedar Valley Arboretum and Botanic Gardens.
