Maxine Thurston

Maxine M. Thurston, 100, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Cedar Falls Health Care Center. Maxine was born March 20, 1916 in Udell, Iowa, the daughter of Frank & Jessie (Harter) Murdy. She married Charles Thurston June 19, 1943 at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas. Maxine graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and taught at Orchard Hill School, retiring in 1974 after 25 years of employment. She was a member of Circle and the Ladies Aid Society at St. Timothys United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

Survivors include her son, Charlie (Nancy Vorland) Thurston, II, of Cedar Falls; her daughter, Barbara (Paul) Quast, of Whitney, Texas; five grandchildren, Ryen and Dustin Guetzlaff, Charles "Chip" Thurston, III, Jocelyn (Jamey) Meyer and Bree Quast; five great grandchildren, Alex Guetzlaff, Charlie Thurston, IV, Harrison Thurston, Graham Meyer, and Colby Meyer; and one great great granddaughter, Carley Wendt.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and husband; one daughter, Sue Ann Wick; one grandson, Noel Wick; two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, and one hour prior to service time Friday at the funeral home.
