Marylou Treichel, 92, Cedar Falls, died Thursday, January 29, 2026 at her home.

Marylou was born March 9, 1933 in Fargo, North Dakota to the late Ross Duke and Edith (Knight) Chowning.  She worked for Newberry's department store as a merchandise manager and later for Kresge's 5 & 10 cent store.

She attended a local VFW dance and after trading multiple glances across the dance floor with a young man, Marylou met and married the love of her life, Richard Treichel, on September 7, 1958 in Fargo, North Dakota.  The couple celebrated 67 loving years together prior to Richard's death on January 20, 2026.

After the birth of their first child, they moved to the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area for Richard's job. In addition to raising three children and handling the household finances, Marylou enjoyed bowling, crocheting beautiful afghans, and detailed genealogy research.

Marylou is survived by her beloved children, Cathy Treichel of Cedar Falls, Cory (Marie) Treichel of Lawrence, KS and Gary Treichel of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Taylor (Allison) Treichel, Ryan Treichel and Tanner Treichel; brother, John (Sherrin) Chowning; and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Ross Duke Chowning Jr., Edith "Sister" Bell, Bernice Deal, Bette Fog, Patsy Neistadt and Grace Craig.

The Remembrance Service for Marylou and Richard's lives will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 31 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment at Cedar Valley Memorial Garden, Cedar Falls.
