MARY MARGARET MELICHAR was born March 20, 1905 in Nechanice, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of John and Frances (Carda) Kos. She married James A. Melichar on December 12, 1927 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1994. Mary was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, the Cedar Falls Woman's Club and the Association of Bandmasters Wives. Mary died Saturday, September 21, 2002, at the Edina Care Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at 97 years of age.
She is survived by her daughter, Sonia Callahan and her husband Hugh of Piedmont, California; her two sons, Edwin J. Melichar and his wife Carol, and Dr. Paul J. Melichar, both of Edina, Minnesota; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband and parents; two brothers, Joseph and Jerry Melichar and a sister, Bessie Gallas.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2002, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
