MARY LOU JOHNSON,
82, of Waverly, Iowa, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center. She was born November 21, 1921 in Studgard, Arkansas, the daughter of Otto and Alvilda (Jacobsen) Luders. Mary married Virgil W. Johnson on February 3, 1940 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was a cook and waitress for 24 years at the "Farmer's Friend", "Fred's Super-Valu" and numerous other restaurants in Waverly, retiring from "The Hub" in 1983. Mary loved her husband Virgil of 64 years, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending rummage sales, garage sales and auctions, and had an extensive doll collection and Princess Di collection. Mary was a member of Washington Chapel Methodist Church in rural Cedar Falls.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil, of Waverly; two sons, Albert W. (Judy) Johnson of Traer, Iowa and Steven R. Johnson of Waterloo, Iowa; three daughters, Judy Johnson McCloud of New Providence, Iowa, and Connie Johnson (Duane) Schneider and Sandra Johnson (Arlin) Thoms, all of Waverly; sixteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Albert Luders of Cedar Falls and Harold (Verna) Luders of New Hartford, Iowa.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Frank Mathes; a brother, Vergal Luders; a son-in-law, Larry McCloud; a sister-in-law, Jo Luders and a nephew, Bob Luders.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls with burial at Washington Chapel Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls, at a later date. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
