MARY ELLEN (BECKMANN)
FREY, 75, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital. She was born January 29, 1929 in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard F. and Florence D. (Mahoney) Beckmann. She was a 1947 graduate of Sumner High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She taught school in Bremer County, Iowa for three years and later worked at the Waverly Hospital in Waverly, Iowa. Mary also worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Waterloo and Waverly and retired in 1992 from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after 25 years of service.
She is survived by her companion, Robert "Bob" Youngblut, of Waterloo; three daughters, Mary Allen, Dr. Laura Frey and Carol Grooms; three grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Westendorf; a sister-in-law, Claudia Schueller and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bernard "Buzz' Beckmann and Joseph Beckmann.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Dialysis Center or Allen Memorial Hospital.
