Marvin A. Heitland, 78, of rural Parkersburg, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at his home.  He was born June 20, 1931 near Sheffield, Iowa, the son of George and Rebecca (Muller) Heitland. Marvin graduated from Aplington High School in 1950. He married Barbara Cole on September 14, 1958 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 in the 1st Calvary Division as a radio operator, stationed in  Japan. Marvin did carpentry and maintenance work through his lifetime. He was very proud of the home that he built, where he and Barbara were residing.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Parkersburg; one son Jim (Deborah) Heitland, of Marion; one daughter,  Donna (Paul) Cunningham, of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Sarah (Monte) Fischels,  Amanda Pexa and Jonathan Heitland; four great grandchildren, Shawn, Kendra, Trae and Serenity; one sister Miriam (Benton) Peters, of Aplington; two sisters in law, Audrey Heitland of Aplington and Marcia (Paul) Gardiner, of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Russell and Alvin Heitland.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Burial will be in the Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com
