Marlys J Spears

MARLYS JEAN SPEARS, 59, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.  She was born May 17, 1940, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Mabel (Erickson) Tangen. Marlys married Stephen Spears on July 16, 1976 in Cedar Falls. She was a 1958 graduate of Cedar Falls High School.  Marlys was employed as a welder for 10 years at Waterloo Industries, as a machinist for 3 years at John Deere & Company and was a preparation cook for over 10 years at The Brown Bottle restaurant in Cedar Falls. She was also a member of the Rambling Wheels Motorcycle Club in Waterloo.

Marlys is survived by her husband Stephen, of Cedar Falls; her son, Jeff of Iowa City, Iowa and her daughter, Cindy Barrett and her husband Rick of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Amber and Ben Barrett; her brother, Gary Tangen and her sister Joann Layton, both of Cedar Falls.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls.  A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
