Marlin Harken

Marlin E. Harken, 79, of New Hartford, Iowa, died at home on Monday, March 30, 2015. He was born September 16, 1935, in Buck Grove, Iowa, the son of Arend C. and Berdena (Meyer) Harken. Marlin married Carol Hasbrouck on May 20, 1954. She preceded him in death on September 6, 1998. He married Charlotte Burington on November 19, 2005. Marlin was a 1954 graduate of New Hartford High School. He worked at the Waterloo Courier for many years and was co-owner CarMar Coffee Services with his wife Carol for many years. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Burington, of New Hartford; two daughters, Paulette (Doug) Lagerquist and Anne (Don) Mitchell, both of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Melissa (Andrew) Legg, Ally Lagerquist, Reed and Paige Hansen; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (JoAnn) Harken of Holland, Iowa and Russel (Sharon) Harken of Iowa City, Iowa, and a sister, Elaine (Don) Chapman, of Cedar Falls. Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Carol, and a son, Paul Harken. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo.
