Marcia Elaine Short

Marcia Elaine (Newport) Short (83), of Cedar Falls, passed away on June 21, 2024, under hospice care at UnityPoint Allen Hospital in Waterloo. She was born January 15, 1941 in New Sharon, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Joyce (Drennen) Newport. Marcia married David Short on August 15, 1964 in Waterloo. After attending school for several years in Independence, Iowa, Marcia graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1959 and received her BA degree in 1970 from the University of Northern Iowa.

Marcia worked with her husband and brother in the family-owned accounting practice of Newport & Short PLC for 37 years, retiring in 2009. Marcia and David enjoyed many years traveling around the Midwest to their two children's athletic competitions throughout their high school and college years. Visiting their children and grandchildren around the country, and even Mexico, brought great joy and adventures to them both. Spending time with close friends, family, and being a tireless caregiver filled her life, and of those that loved her, till the end.

Marcia is survived by her son, Jeff (Kara) Short of Oak Park, Illinois; her daughter Marchelle (Tucker) Else of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and six grandchildren, Lauren, Tamrick, Brennan and Kianna Else, Kai and Aria Short; and her brother, Greg (Shelley Stall) Newport of Lincoln, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by husband David, parents, sisters Lynne and Rachel, and brother Blair.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, following the service, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be one hour before service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
