Marcelle Rosa (ROBINSON) Adolph was born March 7, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Polish-Jewish immigrants, Joseph and Lena (Iglowitz) Robinson. During the Great Depression, she was a Works Progress Administration youth worker at Hull House, the settlement house founded by pioneering Social Worker Jane Adams. At Hull House, she fell in love with Irv Adolph whom she married in 1941. Marcelle helped manufacture the B-17 Bomber during World War II. She earned her BA from George Williams College and a Master's of Social Work from the University of Illinois, Chicago. In 1948, she gave birth to her daughter, Naomi. After a lengthy career serving children and adolescents in a variety of Chicago agencies, Marcelle spent the final 20 years of her career as a clinical social worker at Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital, where she was recognized as Employee of the Year in 1975. She served on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's Network and the Chicago Board for the National Council of Jewish Women. Marcelle lost her beloved husband, Irv, to cancer in 1991. She moved to Cedar Falls in 1998. Marcelle died Monday, June 25, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Western Home at the age of 87 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Naomi McCormick and her husband, John, of Cedar Falls, Iowa and one brother, Seymour Robinson and his wife, Anita, of Los Angeles, California.

Marcelle was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Memorial services were 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Western Home.
