MARCELLA L. GERDES, 86, of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at her home in Bethel Springs. She was born January 25, 1921 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Vivian (Lawrence) Scoggin. Marcella married Clyde E. Gerdes on December 24, 1940 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1981. Marcella worked actively in the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Activities Department for 32 years, retiring in October of 2006.
Survivors include a son, Richard (Gayle) Gerdes, of Carmichael, California; two daughters, Joyce (Bill) Wilson of Bethel Springs, Tennessee and Nancy (Richard) Glaza of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kenneth (Teressa) Wilson, Wade (Stacey) Wilson, Angela Gerdes-Glaza and Melissa Gerdes; five great grandchildren, Zachary and Chase Wilson, and Cole, Emma and Jack Wilson; and a sister, Hazel Saul, of Missouri.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers, Bob, Don and Bill Scoggin.

Private graveside committal service will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Visitation will be 3—6:00 pm Thursday, August 2, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
