Lyle James Thompson, 73, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls. He was born September 18, 1939 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the son of James A. and Alice (Egan) Thompson. Lyle married Bonita "Bonnie" L. Jones on July 18, 1960 in McGregor, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2000. Lyle was a graduate of Logan High School in La Crosse and worked at John Deere & Company for thirty years, retiring in 1989. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Lyle enjoyed the outdoors and loved helping his family with many different projects. He is survived by his two daughters, Dawn (Craig) Hild and Dianne (Gil) Schultz, both of Cedar Falls; his son, James (Anita) Thompson, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and two sisters, Janice (Dennis) Verdick of Omaha, Nebraska and Joan Briggs of Onalaska, Wisconsin. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 47:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.
