Lucy Mae Bolhuis

Lucy Mae Bolhuis, 78, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at her home. She was born June 14, 1935 in Greene, Iowa, the daughter of Herb and Ella Hillegas. Lucy married Chris C. Bolhuis on March 16, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Greene. She was a graduate of Greene High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). Lucy farmed with her husband for many years in rural Cedar Falls. She also worked at Osco Drug Store, Von Maur, and The Coach House. Lucy was a great cook, enjoyed travelling with her husband on their motorcycle, and loved her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Chris Bolhuis, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Chris (Patty) Bolhuis and Fred (Dee) Bolhuis, both of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Judy Bolhuis, of Dike; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hillegas, of Nashua, Iowa, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Holmes, of West Branch, Iowa. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 48:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or St. John Lutheran Church.
