LOUISE EMMA GUTKNECHT was born May 23, 1906, the daughter of August Frederick and Rebecca Sophia (Andorf) Engel near Cedar Falls, Iowa. She married Ewald Henry Gutknecht June 4, 1924 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1964. Louise and Ewald farmed for 33 years before retiring and moving into Hudson. Louise then worked for many years as a cook at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She died Friday, May 9, 2003 at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, at the age of 96 years.
Louise is survived by one son, Harry (Roberta) Gutknecht of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters, Debbie (Randy) Nieman of Buckingham, Iowa and Connie (Tim) Taplin of Cedar Falls; four great grandchildren, Clayton and Anna Nieman, and Allison and Alexis Taplin; and two sisters, Augusta Stender of Cedar Falls and Laura Siemans of Waterloo, Iowa. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and The Rev. Ernest Engel; and four sisters, Esther and Martha Engel, Alma Waltmann and Matilda Gutknecht.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson with burial in the church cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.
