LILY ANN CHANEY, 109, died Monday, October 30, 2006, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born December 4, 1896 on a farm near Potter Siding, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Augusta (Mundt) Willbrandt. She was baptized December 21, 1896 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Crane Creek, Tripoli, Iowa. Lily Ann's early childhood was spent in the rural area where she developed a fondness for nature and became an expert on the habitat of birds and other creatures in the area. Her paternal grandparents, Anna and Joachim Willbrandt, lived nearby and were a great influence on her early life.

Lily Ann received her formal education in a rural school in Bremer County. She received her religious instruction in German in Tripoli and was confirmed on March 27, 1910 at Grace Lutheran Church. Lily Ann, and her younger brother Leo, helped their parents farm until Lily Ann accepted a position at the Bremer County Home. She was employed there until her marriage to Werner Rewoldt on January 26, 1916. He passed away on February 6, 1963. To this union five children were born: Leo, Elston, Marcille, Ruth and Arlene.

Lily Ann enjoyed music and when her daughters were of school age she often accompanied their singing by playing the piano. Music has always been an important part of her life. She was an enthusiastic supporter when her daughters played basketball and at the age of 106 she attended her great granddaughter's game at Cedar Falls High School.

Lily Ann became a resident of the Lutheran Home in September of 1994 and had the distinction of being the oldest resident living there. She enjoyed participating in the Chime Choir and other activities at the home. Lily Ann has had a long, fulfilling life and was a great influence to many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her three daughters, Marcille Fox of Sumner, Iowa, Ruth Haynes of Cresco, Iowa and Arlene Moeller of Petaluma, California; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Walter Haynes; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Rewoldt; and two stepsons, Bob (Marie) Chaney of Lake City, Minnesota and Kenneth (Olga) Chaney of Sacramento, California.

Lily Ann was preceded in death by her parents and both of her husbands, Werner Rewoldt and Harvey Chaney; two sons, Leo and Elston Rewoldt; a daughter-in-law, Mary Rewoldt; three sons-in-law, Leo Buckendahl, Gerald Fox and Duane Moeller; her brother, Leo Willbrandt; a grandson, Steven Rewoldt, and a great grandson, Matthew Hackman.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, November 4, 2006, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel, with a 2:00 pm committal service at Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Tripoli. Visitation will be 4 - 8:00 pm Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, 266-7525, and one hour before service at the Lutheran Home Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family.
