Lillian E. Boswell, 93, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Germany, New York, Ohio and California, died Friday, August 16, 2019, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls. She was born September 25, 1925 in New York City, New York, the daughter of Eduard and Helene (Bartz) Schendel. Lillian married Joseph M. Boswell on October 28, 1950 in New York City. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1999. Lillian was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, volunteered for Hospice in California, and was an active member of her church and the VFW Auxiliary. Lillian enjoyed working with SAGE (Senior Acquired Generational Experience) at UNI as well as sharing WW II history with Sue Green's students at Holmes Jr. High in Cedar Falls. The family wishes to thank Hospice Aide Sandi for her loving care of Lillian over the past two and half years.
Lillian is survived by her daughter, Helene (Jim) Wertz, of Dike, Iowa; her two sons, Mark (Susan) Boswell of Boston, New York and James (Barbara) Boswell of Lafayette, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Molly) Wertz, Stacey Simmer, Amy (Eric) Dederichs, Joseph Boswell, Melissa (Joseph) Kieffer, Jennifer (Brad) Cockrell, Nigel Boswell and Rudi Boswell; ten great grandchildren, and two sisters, Hella Rodehau of Germany and Jutta Hill of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her brother, Heinz Schendel, and a sister, Rosa Zahn.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Fredsville Lutheran Church, with inurnment at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Cedar Falls. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family.
