LEROY FREDRICK FOWLKES was born July 19, 1921 in Independence, Iowa the son of Fredrick and Nellie (Ciesielski) Fowlkes. He married Lavonne "Bonnie" Wheelock Novebmer 26, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa. LeRoy served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre.. He was employed at Hinson Manufacturing (Royal Division) retiring in 1981. LeRoy was past President of the Wesleyan Men of the Iowa-Minnesota District of the Wesleyan Church. He died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center at the age of 80 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of Cedar Falls; one son, James of Ramsey, Minnesota; three daughters, Sherry Trustin of Parkersburg, Iowa, Josetta Kibbee of Waterloo, Iowa and Cyndi South of Raymond, Iowa; ten grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia of Florida and Mary Jo Simpson of Carson, California
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ralph and Floyd Fowlkes, James Ackles and Calvin Manley; and two sisters, Alberta McClure and Buela Rosberg.
Services were 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2001 at Maywood Wesleyan Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo Military graveside rites were conducted by the Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237. Memorials may be directed to the family.
