Leota Cecilia Oberheu

Leota Cecilia Oberheu, 91, of Cedar Falls, passed away at NewAldaya Lifescapes on Sunday, July 27, 2025.  She was born in Cedar Falls on November 19, 1933, daughter of LeRoy and Esther (Rasmussen) Jacobson. Leota graduated from Teachers College High School with the Class of 1952. Following graduation, she worked for Bishops Buffet in Waterloo. On May 6, 1956, she married Lester Vernon Oberheu at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Leota was a devoted mother and homemaker.

Leota was preceded in death by her parents; Lester, her husband of 47 years; and her sister, Loreen Frisch. She is survived by her six children: Myron (Nelda) Oberheu of Bulverde, TX, Roberta (Marc) Monter of Waterloo, Sharon (Jeff) Even of Waterloo, Larry (Sue) Oberheu of Waterloo, Eldon (Michele) Oberheu of Marion, and Joyce (Mark) Wilhovsky of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Jacobson of Cedar Falls.

Leota's Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 31, 2025, with Visitation the evening prior from 4:00 – 6:00 pm both at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home of Cedar Falls. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery of Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Leota enjoyed going to bingo, playing balloon volleyball and bean bag baseball as well as getting a bike ride. She adored listening to the violinist who visited at NewAldaya. Leota also found pleasure in watching the birds, squirrels and rabbits. She liked attending plays at the Regent and Community Playhouse. Above all else, Leota loved her family, and cherished any time she could spend with them.
